Student's Book

Practice Book

Learn more about Odyssey: Student's Book

The Student’s Book has nine units, with seven two-page lessons each, and a Language Review every three units. And as students travel through it on their learning odyssey, Cam steers them around an opening Tale with reading comprehension activities; Cam’s Song and Values; they meet Zoe and Joey the grammar guides; jive to the Big World, Small World jingle while exploring culture; check in at Cam’s Checkpoints; practice oral and aural skills with Cam’s communicative Chat; and learn steps in a writing process. If that’s not enough to keep your students busy, the book also includes pair work activities, a sticker section and the self-evaluation Checkpoint at the back!

Cam’s Tale
Units open with a story preparing children for the unit vocabulary and grammar. Reading comprehension activities help you check students’ understanding. Don’t forget to spot Cam the Chameleon hiding somewhere in the story!

Cam’s Song
Students sing and learn about universal values with Cam’s Song. The audio is on the learning platform, also in karaoke format.

Cam’s Values
Through a simple activity, students recognize the value and see why it’s important, then personalize it by using it in their own lives.

Vocabulary
Different types of activities introduce up to two lexical sets, consolidated in a final activity.

Grammar
Two recurring characters, Zoe and Joey, introduce new grammar structures in a lively comic strip.

Look! boxes direct children to the target language, other language rules, and also help them spot common mistakes.

Big World, Small World
This colorful cultural journey to other countries around the world starts with a jaunty jingle. A host explains what it’s like to live in that country, and students learn through different activities.

Practice
Students practice and review the vocabulary and grammar points from the unit, then check in at Cam’s Checkpoints.

Speaking
Students can practice pronunciation, as well as listening, speaking and spelling. Cam’s Chat reviews fun functional language, before students do communicative pair work tasks.

Writing
A model text gives students a clear example of what they will achieve! As they follow the steps (read, think, plan, draft, reflect), with spelling and punctuation rules, they write their first draft – to be finished in their Practice Book!

The Practice Book is organized for students to practice the language they have learned in class and personalize it. It contains a similar Big World, Small World culture spread to the Student’s Book, to learn about a different country through fun activities. Students will also finish the final draft of their writing process texts in their Practice Book.
