Empowering students to become 21st-century global citizens. 

Directions is the perfect course to help your students become fully rounded citizens of the 21st century. Our course is built on a carefully crafted language and skills syllabus and offers intellectual challenge, a collaborative goal-oriented approach and a strong exam focus. The global content combined with the development of essential global skills and collaboration tasks give students everything that they will need to flourish in today’s world.

Directions helps to prepare students for independent, academic study with challenging research and critical-thinking tasks throughout. There is extensive, challenging practice and recycling throughout the course including a dedicated Challenge! page at end of each unit with fun activities that activate grammar and vocabulary.

Starter

There is a four-page optional Starter unit at the beginning of the Student’s Book. It reviews basic Grammar and Vocabulary from earlier levels and includes Reading and Listening sections which provide students with a useful introduction to skills work. It can also serve as a useful introduction to the course methodology and features.

There is a four-page optional Starter unit at the beginning of the Student’s Book. It reviews basic Grammar and Vocabulary from earlier levels and includes Reading and Listening sections which provide students with a useful introduction to skills work. It can also serve as a useful introduction to the course methodology and features.

Reading and Vocabulary

The Reading and Vocabulary lesson features the first vocabulary set of the unit, which is presented via the reading text. It also features a Reading Expert and Word Expert feature.

Grammar and Speaking

The next section features a Grammar lesson followed by a Speaking lesson with a final output task. The Grammar lesson features the first grammar point of the unit. The Speaking lesson includes Key expressions and Speaking Expert, as well as a Speaking Guide for the final task.

Listening and Vocabulary

The Listening and Vocabulary lesson features the second vocabulary set of the unit, which is presented via an audio text. It also features a Listening Expert and Word Expert feature.

Grammar and Writing

The next section features a Grammar lesson followed by a Writing lesson with a final output task. The Grammar lesson features the second grammar point of the unit. The Writing lesson includes a Writing Expert as well as a Writing Guide for the final task.

Global Goals

The last section of the unit features the Global goals video lesson based around the themes of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The lesson provides an opportunity for discussion around sustainability issues, and the development of global skills, such as cultural awareness and problem-solving.

Challenge

The Challenge! section at the end of each unit reviews the main input of the unit in a fun and communicative way with a main discussion task and a follow-up Challenge your memory! game.
